Rare Sats

Within the Ordinals protocol, sats are considered special and valued beyond regular, “common” sats if they’re the first satoshi:

of any Bitcoin block (“uncommon”),
of a new Difficulty adjustment period (“rare”),
of a new Halving epoch (“epic”),
of a new cycle (“legendary”), or
of the Genesis Block (“mythic”).

You can think of rare sats like misprinted pennies which acquire a far higher numismatic value than normal pennies.
